Falconer Chester Hall Salford Skyline

The changing skyline of Salford

Salford, Greater Manchester was listed in the top 10 hotspot cities to live in Great Britain (Rightmove April 2022).  It is a story of successful, on-going regeneration and is viewed as an exciting place to work and live. We have been contributing to the changing skyline for over 20 years and will would like to share a few of our projects that are currently under construction or reaching completion over the coming weeks.

Firstly, Embankment Exchange working with Legacie Developments:

We have been entrusted to deliver this impressive two tower apartment development to add to Salford’s skyline, the tallest tower rising to 36 storeys. The scheme includes a spa, gym, residents lounge and bar and work from home booths. The scheme is currently onsite, and the superstructure has progressed well across both blocks.

Manchester Waters  Vermont construction and X1 Sales and Lettings– located on the former Pomona Docks site on the Manchester Ship Canal and building on an older planning consent, the current design concept reflects the maritime character of the area, large windows to the living spaces maximises natural light.  The height of the five blocks steps up as you head in the direction of Manchester city centre.  The development will help the regeneration of the former dock site and provides residents with state of the art living, including a communal gym, cinema room, communal landscaped podium space plus covered parking.

Merchants Wharf  working with Legacie DevelopmentsA mixed use development and forms part of the wider plans for the area as it transitions to mixed-use neighbourhood.  The scheme comprises two blocks, rising up to 9 storeys crowned by a number of duplex apartments.  The external façade features a textured red brick in reference to the traditional materiality of Salford’s Victorian era, whilst the stacked black brickwork at the lower storeys creates the appearance of a plinth that grounds the design within its immediate context. The set-back top floors are clad in a light grey standing seam system with projecting vertical joints that offers a contemporary contrast to the masonry below, whilst helping to visually marry the scale to its surroundings.

The Campus/Irwell House working together with Vermont Construction and X1 Sales and Lettings Sitting on a vibrant street adjacent to the University campus, this scheme provides student apartments for post graduate students at Salford University. A communal south facing courtyard offers a place to meet and the scheme offers shared communal spaces such as a gym, games room and lounge.  The chosen materiality has taken inspiration from the local vernacular. ensuring the building sits harmoniously within its context. Native planting in the landscaping has enhanced the biodiversity of the area.

Dock 5 –  for ForViva provides urban living across an eight storey, three block, mixed use scheme. In addition to the apartments there are a series of townhouses and the development forms part of a wider master plan for the area. Dock 5 maximises an active frontage, providing an exciting, varied streetscape and makes a positive contribution to the River Irwell. Juliette balconies have been used to further the sense of verticality and to celebrate  corners where the lounge areas are situated.

Our design was developed from an original prepared by Purcell and has recently reached completion and welcomed its new residents.
