Working for Benmore Developments, Falconer Chester Hall has taken three unused and commercially undesirable buildings and designed a £10 million modern mixed use development, comprising a hotel, retail space, and multi-storey car park.
Fronting onto one of Liverpool’s grandest boulevards and retaining the façade of the 1890s Pioneer Building and the art deco ‘Eagle Star’ building, our design added a contemporary modern extension, whose form and external materials respond to and complement the existing streetscape. With this, we created a 123 bed Ibis Styles hotel, aimed at the price conscious, design savvy, mid-market business and leisure traveller, with modern standards of access and sustainability and rich, dramatic interiors.
The existing façades are sensitively restored and the infill façade uses copper, brick stone and oriel windows to create an animated and sensitive addition to the streetscape, adding vitality and purpose to its setting.
