Hotel Indigo, Newcastle

Hotel Indigo, Newcastle, is situated in the city centre on Fenkle Street. The hotel has 148 bedrooms with a gym, ground level cafe bar and features a Marco Pierre-White restaurant fronting the street.

The hotel is a refurbishment of an existing 1970s concrete framed stone clad building. Large-scale photographic imagery in the hotel bedrooms and common parts captures the character of striking architectural features and directly connects the hotel to its northeastern context. These local references bring a deeper three dimensional appearance to the rooms, enhancing the Hotel Indigo brand.

The interior design concept references Tyneside’s history, including its fine classical buildings. Bold, geometric forms, classical proportions and repeating rhythms mimic colonnades found in the neighbouring area. Images of shadows, strong verticals and industrial detailing have also inspired the graphic wall, floor and textile finishes. Furniture has taken inspiration from original pieces typically of the area; ornate desks and flared leg details; simple, light and elegantly graceful.
