The design for a £2million, 480sqm single storey penthouse extension on the roof of 190-196 City Road, London, won planning permission where a previous proposal was refused.
Providing two 3-bedroom and one 2-bedroom apartment, Falconer Chester Hall’s succinct design responded to the planners’ previous concerns and delivered a suitably scaled and finished development, in harmony with the character and appearance of the Moorfields Conservation Area.
A traditional mansard roof form for the extension minimises the visual impact from street level as well as being respectful and subordinate to the host building. This idea was refined with glazed facades at penthouse level with anthracite zinc panels above and screens in front of the crisply defined glazing.
Each apartment has generous floor space with good levels of natural light and an excellent outlook, combined with private outdoor amenity space, and access to common areas direct from street level.
