Falconer Chester Hall’s award winning design for the Grade II listed Chancery House on Paradise Street, Liverpool, converted the former Gordon Smith Institute for Seamen into 37 residential apartments together with a restaurant and café/delicatessen.
The project, for Chancery House LLP, consists of a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments situated over 900 sq m of commercial space on the ground and mezzanine level with a two-storey rooftop extension and a new six-storey link building.
The design of the extension and new building, together with the colour palette and cladding materials chosen, reflects the existing collection of distinctive buildings in the location.
The report to Liverpool City Council’s Planning committee noted ‘the scheme represents a sensitive and sympathetic adaptation of the building’.
