The brief provided by our client, Jamworks was to design affordable city housing for young professionals within an existing building which has sat derelict for nearly 30 years. The building at 11-17 Parker Street was formally Reece’s ballroom where John Lennon held a small reception after his wedding to Cynthia back in August 1962. Since the premises closed in the 80’s the building has fallen into disrepair.
The proposal intends to bring life back to this impressive building by renovating floors 2-5 and adding two additional levels to the building. The new floors will step back in form and have been designed to be sympathetic to the Portland stone façade of the original building.
