City planners have given the green light to a three-block development just outside the city centre which will see the creation of more than 600 new apartments by Bevington Developments Limited.
Bevington Bush, just set back from Scotland Road, replaces previous plans for a 1,000-unit student accommodation scheme, the scheme will comprise 614 apartments, a mix of studio, one and two-bed units.
The three buildings will be between nine and 17 storeys in height. Each will have their own entrance lobby and cycle store, whilst the 17-storey building will also contain a gym for residents’ use.
The development sits within the emerging Limekiln/Pumpfields district, identified in the City’s Strategic Investment Framework as having the potential to form a northern expansion of the city centre.
“This development will make a strong visual statement close to a busy route into the city centre, removing the considerable blight which currently exists,” said senior architect Robert Brym.
“It will also demonstrate the confidence of further new investment into the city and help reinforce the appeal of the commercial district by providing quality accommodation close to this important employment area.”
Construction of the new buildings will necessitate the demolition of two warehouse buildings of which one is derelict and unused.
